
KOHIMA/DIMAPUR/MOKOKCHUNG, MAY 30 (MExN): The media fraternity across Nagaland was united in grief on Thursday as members of the Kohima Press Club (KPC), Dimapur Press Club (DPC), and Mokokchung Press Club (MPC) expressed profound sorrow over the untimely demise of senior journalist and former Kohima Press Club president KV Nurumi.
Nurumi passed away at Olive Hospital, Dimapur, on the morning of May 30 following a brief illness. He hailed from Aichisaghemi village under Zunheboto district and served as the President of Kohima Press Club from 2010 to 2012.
In a condolence message, the Kohima Press Club expressed shock and grief at his passing, stating, “We express our deep sorrow and grief at his passing and will always remember his valuable contributions to the growth of Kohima Press Club under his leadership.” Fondly known as "Toto" among friends and colleagues, Nurumi was described as a respected journalist and mentor to many young entrants in the profession.
Nurumi worked as a correspondent for the Nagaland Post for several years, contributed to Asian News International (ANI), and was also an anchor for the Doordarshan live discussion programme titled “Trends of Nagaland.”
The Kohima Press Club extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, stating, “May God grant strength, peace and comfort to his wife, his two daughters, and all those who mourn the irreparable loss of our former president.”
The Dimapur Press Club echoed similar sentiments, calling Nurumi a “respected figure in the journalistic fraternity” whose leadership, dedication, and mentorship left a lasting impression on colleagues and the wider media community. “We join his family in mourning the loss of a valued journalist and a guiding presence in the profession. May they find strength and comfort during this difficult time, and may his soul rest in peace,” the DPC stated.
The Mokokchung Press Club also expressed deep sorrow at his passing, calling him “a committed journalist who served the profession with integrity, passion, and courage.” The club added, “His contribution to the field of journalism will be remembered with deep respect and admiration.”
Extending heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and loved ones, MPC stated, “May they find strength and solace in the legacy he leaves behind. May his soul rest in eternal peace.”
The Editor and staff of Nagaland Post expressed deep shock and sadness at the untimely demise of KV Nurumi, who passed away in Dimapur on Friday morning.
In a condolence message, the newspaper said late Nurumi was among the early noted documentarians of Nagaland and also a freelance journalist. Remembering him as a humble, kind-hearted, and helpful individual, it said he endeared himself to all who came in contact with him.
“With his passing, the media fraternity in Nagaland has lost a friend and colleague. His absence leaves a huge vacuum that will be difficult to fill for decades,” the message stated.
The Editor and staff conveyed their deepest condolences to the bereaved family and prayed that Almighty God grant them comfort and strength, and for eternal peace to the departed soul.
