Kohima Village Gazetted Officers’ Association (KVGOA) president Er. Keviletuo Yiese highlighted some of the pressing issues affecting the community and also the state in general during the biennial conference of KVGOA held on February 13 at Capital Convention Centre.

He reiterated the urgency in addressing the issue of the illegal Bangladeshi immigrants, and informed the gathering that toward this KVGOA had instituted a core group to make an indepth study, whose findings with actionable solutions were submitted to the Kohima Village Council to be forwarded to higher civil society organisations.

He said that another KVGOA’s main concern was regarding high unemployment rate among the youth and the need to venture into entrepreneurial avenues.

Citing that it is impossible for the government to accommodate everyone in the government sector, he encouraged the younger generation to look beyond government for employment.

He further exhorted the members of KVGOA and the people of Kohima in general to work towards conservation of its forest resources.

Stating that water being an extremely scarce commodity, he said that failure to conserve and preserve our forests, aggressive deforestation by means of human habitation would lead to a cessation of our water sources which would mean a predictable catastrophe.

He also stressed on the need to stop encroachment of government lands/illegal allotment of government land by private entities, and that as government servants, it was a duty of every officer to protect the government’s properties and resources.

As an officer, he said, the members have a special role to play not only to assist in the governance of the village affairs but also contribute greatly to the growth of Kohima town which is in essence a cosmopolitan capital city of the state.

Further, Er. Yiese made a fervent appeal to all the members of KVGOA to rededicate themselves and pledge their service for the people of the Nagaland.
