This year, Hope Center of Excellence in Music & Art under the Directorship of Zubeno Mozhui will present a piece called ‘Origins’ during the Hornbill Festival. The play ‘Origins’ is an extract from many Naga folk stories, songs and dances interpreted in a contemporary style. There are around 30 young artistes in the musical, and 60 other crew members each designated with different roles. The musical narrates how beauty is acclaimed and even triggered battles on heaven and earth.
Director of ‘Origins’, Frenchman Gilles Chuyen has incorporated earth, wind water and fire elements, just like the way the elements coexisted with the Nagas. Even the sun, the devils, the animal kingdom and the sky want to marry a beautiful lady; however the beauty struggles to decline the proposal. The beauty displays her struggles and anguish through music, as soothing and thundering sounds and battling lightings swallow the audience. The musical goes up and down on different scales, motions, beats and notes, then finally reaches the climax with an incredible warrior dance. It then gradually subsides to signify peace on earth with dance and music. With special sound and light along with elaborate costumes designed by local Naga designers, the show promises to be a winner.
Having given the chance to catch a glimpse of the 90 minutes run-through, it will forever be remembered. The artists, who are committed and understand their roles, have made it look so easy and flawless through ceaseless rehearse – a result of hard work. These young performers have only one objective and a wish- success of the event and helping the needy orphans in Naga society. The ticket which is priced at Rs. 5000 (each ticket for one couple entry and dinner) for the event will all go to charity. Money generated on December 3rd 2011 through ‘Hornbill Charity Ball’ will go to orphanages in Nagaland.
Tickets are limited to only 300 seats. For contribution money and purchase of tickets, contact Hope Center of Excellence Dimapur in Music & Art, Art & Culture Office Kohima and Tourism Office Kohima. The team shares credit with the Department of Art & Culture and Department of Tourism.
