Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio today said that the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) had contacted him yesterday and informed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi intends to visit Nagaland.

But he (Modi) lost his beloved mother and he may come; but it may be a little delayed, Rio told media persons on the sideline of an official function at T Khel Model Village, near Kohima.

On being asked about Deputy CM Y Patton’s recent statement at a function that the Assembly Election 2023 would be held accordingly in case there is no early sign of a Naga political solution, Rio said “Yes, if there is no solution, there will be election.”

Queried on whether the NDPP and its alliance BJP party approached the 20 MLAs from the eastern Nagaland region as well as ENPO leaders as they (ENPO) have strongly reiterated their stand to abstain from the upcoming elections, Rio said that he has summoned a cabinet meeting on January 3 for this.

“We will be having a meeting and discuss on this,” he said.

On possible COVID surge in the state, Rio said “With God’s blessing, in our state, I think it is under control though we are not completely free.” On the other hand, Rio said, we have to be cautious and alert, adding “We should be on guard but not so much alarming.”
