Prioritize Power supply: NCD

DIMAPUR, MAY 19 (MExN): The Naga Council Dimapur (NCD) has appealed for the Nagaland state government to give priority importance to electricity supply “as requirement for power is increasing year by year with the growth of population and advancement.” The NCD, in a press note, further expressed concern at the power problems faced by consumers, which have led to upset sections of the public causing disturbances to the Power Department staff within Dimapur.

It suggested a few measures for the department to address the current situation. Stating that low voltage (110 volts instead of 240 volts) is quiet common these days, the NCD stated that this has affected the use of electrical equipments, water pumps, air conditioners etc. As such, it called upon the Power Department to do the needful and maintain the standard 240 volts supply in every corner. It suggested installation of more transformers, without which it stated, “this problem will persist.”

The NCD urged telephone duty personnel, linemen and electrical employees to work sincerely in order to avert angry mobs and requested the administration and police to see that no disturbance or damage is done, which would affect power supply. It called upon members of the public to restrain itself from taking the law into their own hands.

The NCD appealed for the Power Department to be more vigilant and take action on unscrupulous staff, “who are always absent from duty and look for opportunities to extract from consumers.” “In view of the forthcoming World Cup, which the public is eagerly waiting to watch, the department is requested to do its level best to give uninterrupted power supply,” the NCD added.
