Priyanka Chopra as the brand ambassador for Assam tourism seems to garner attention for controversies rather than the actress promoting the state. Latest is that PC is being discussed in the state assembly. Reason? Well, the actress who features on the state calender seems to have upset Congress leaders in Assam. Members of the state assembly debated over how Priyanka's skin show is bringing a bad name to the Assam culture and they want her to be replaced by a regional actor as the brand ambassador. Boko MLA Nandita Das and MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi initiated the matter in Assam assembly. TIME8 portal quote Kurmi saying, “The government should preserve the respect of the Assamese society. Frock is not an Assamese attire and the calendar pictures were not sober at all. The government should have known how to preserve the prestige of the Assamese society, instead they could have used the traditional mekhela sador. This is the reason we have protested against the calendar." She also said, “There are a lot of talented Assamese actors, the government should look into this and accordingly appoint one.” Assam Tourism Development Corporation (ATDC) stands by Quantico star and doesn't find any thing objectionable with her picture. Chairman of ATDC, Jayanta Malla Baruah told a local news weekly, “The calendar was made to promote Assam internationally. It has also been sent to prominent international tour operators and dignitaries." Meanwhile, Priyanka Chopra has been seeking a legal opinion with respect to terminating her contract with jewellery designer Nirav Modi's brand in light of allegations of financial fraud, her spokesperson Natasha Pal told media last week. "There are speculative reports that Priyanka Chopra has sued Nirav Modi. This is not true. She is seeking a legal opinion with respect to terminating her contract," Pal said. The designer is entangled in controversy after 10 Punjab National Bank officials were suspended over financial fraud to the tune of $ 1.77 billion.
