Pro Rural conducts health training for frontline workers in Tening

Pro Rural, in collaboration with the Health Department, organised a one-day capacity-building workshop for ASHAs and health workers in Tening town.

TENING, JULY 20 (MExN): Pro Rural, in collaboration with the Health Department, organised a one-day capacity-building workshop for Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs) and health workers at the Old Council Hall in Tening town on July 18.

A total of 37 ASHAs, along with nurses and staff from Sub-Centres, Primary Health Centres (PHCs), and the Community Health Centre (CHC) under Tening block, participated in the workshop.

The training focused on key national health priorities, including Tuberculosis Elimination (RNTCP), Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), Reproductive and Child Health, Immunisation, and the DISHA programme. The sessions were conducted using participatory methods by experienced district-level health educators. The Chief Medical Officer’s office was also represented at the event.

As part of the initiative, Pro Rural distributed health equipment kits—including blood pressure monitors and sugar testing devices—to all 37 ASHA workers to aid in basic community-level diagnosis and monitoring.

Welcoming the participants, Paul Lokho, Director of Pro Rural, highlighted the critical role of frontline health workers in underserved rural areas. “In most remote villages, ASHAs are often the first and only point of contact for healthcare. Equipping them is essential to improving rural health indicators,” he said, while expressing gratitude to the HCL Foundation for supporting the initiative.

Pro Rural also announced that it will continue organising monthly workshops in collaboration with the Health Department to promote community-based health leadership and improve service outreach across rural Nagaland.
