Dimapur, May 20 (MExN): A frontal organization in Phek has demanded a government inquiry into the contentious Phek-Chozuba road stating that the contractors tasked with the work are still struggling with approximately one-third of construction even after a lapse of three years, and full payments taken. It was revealed that the ‘bill’ released to the contractor was Rs. 1493.31 lakhs (fourteen crores ninety-three lakhs and thirty-one thousand) but the fund left for completion of the project was a mere Rs. 84.69 lakhs when the road is still one-third of construction even after three years.
The Chozuba Range Public Organization stated its demand in a letter addressed to the chief minister of Nagaland. The letter was also appended with a copy of financial and progress statement from the Executive Engineer of PWD (Roads & Bridges) received through RTI. The Phek-Chozuba road was included as a centrally sponsored scheme and accordingly the DoNER ministry sanctioned funds for construction of the road on November 29 2007, the organization stated.
“However, even after lapse of three years the contractors M/S KK Chire & Co are still struggling with approximately one-third of the construction works. But bill payments were made almost in full amount without verification of the actual physical progress of the ongoing construction work,” the organization slated in the letter.
“Work order was issued for an amount of Rs. 1578.00 lakhs only and bill released to the contractor Rs. 1493.31 lakhs (fourteen crores ninety-three lakhs and thirty-one thousand) and fund left for completion of the project Rs. 84.69 lakhs,” the Chozuba Range Public Organization stated.
The organization has appealed to the chief minister and the state government to institute a government inquiry into the whole dealings and matter so that the Phek-Chozuba road can serve the people and the area. The letter was appended by president of the organization Thepule Lohe and general secretary Kholie Keyho.
