
Dimapur, June 18 (MExN): The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) is all set to establish the Mahatma Gandhi Centre for Social Work at Chuchuyimlang village, Mokokchung district in collaboration with Nagaland Gandhi Ashram (NGA).
The Centre, which is the first of its kind in Nagaland, is being established as part of a larger initiative between IGNOU and NGA officially named as the “Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education and Development” (MGIED) scheduled to function at the present NGA complex. It envisages establishment of institutes of learning on diverse disciplines. The project is implemented to coincide with the commemoration of more than five decades of selfless and dedicated service to the rural people of Chuchuyimlang and surrounding villages by the Nagaland Gandhi Ashram.
Dr Aotoshi, PRO, Nagaland Gandhi Ashram has informed in a press release that the Centre for Social Work will start functioning with effect from July 28, 2010. The last date for the receipt of application is June 30. IGNOU has already placed all the detailed information on the website (www.ignou.ac.in).
The other Institutes that would be established in a phased manner include: Teachers’ training Institute, Centre for Naga Arts & Crafts, Institute of Gandhian Studies and North East Affairs and Institute of Agriculture Development and vocational training.
