Mokokchung, October 2 (MExN): To commemorate the 147th Gandhi Jayanti, the Chuchuyimlang Village Council organised a 2-day programme focusing on “peace, universal brotherhood and sanitation”.
To make cleanliness and sanitation an integral part of everyone and to inculcate these habits at a very young age, a community sanitation drive was organized on October 1, where 9 schools of Chuchuyimlang village and Chuchu town participated, a press release informed. The day also witnessed a painting competition based on the life and teachings of Mahatma Gandhi where school children participated.
On October 2, a day-long function was held at the Anü Mai Amphitheatre at Chuchuyimlang Village. The occasion was marked by competitions which included on-memory recital of Mahatma Gandhi’s favourite Bible verses and Christian Hymn singing. Participants from all the schools, National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology and Mahatma Gandhi Academy of Human Development took part in these competitions, the release informed.
According to the release, Chuchuyimlang has been celebrating Gandhi Jayanti since 1955, the year Nagaland Gandhi Ashram was established by the veteran Gandhian Padmashree Natwar Thakkar.
