‘Say No to Suicide, Yes to Life’

Phek July 26 (MExN): Phek Police today launched “Project UMMEED: The HOPE” to address the rising concerns over mental health and emotional distress.

This initiative, taken up by Phek Police, was officially launched by Dr Pritpal Kaur, IPS, Superintendent of Police, Phek at a function held at Christian Mission Higher Secondary School, Phek on July 26.

This dedicated initiative aimed at promoting mental wellness and to prevent suicide cases. The project carries a powerful motto: “Say No to Suicide, Yes to Life”, and focuses on key issues such as mental health, depression and emotional crisis support.

In her address, Dr Kaur emphasized the urgency of addressing mental health concerns, revealing that Phek district has witnessed a number of suicide cases over the past few years.

She informed the gathering that a District Distress Response Team (DRT) has been formed to respond to any emergency or distress calls round the clock.

The helpline will operate 24x7, and callers’ identities will be kept confidential, with necessary counselling and support provided to those in need.

Jitsisiasa from Sakhi One Stop Centre Phek, and Neichulou from Women Welfare Society Phek also delivered short speech.

Kelhouletuo, Psychiatrist, District Hospital Phek, highlighted the significance of mental health and the need for awareness and support in the community.

Earlier, Limayangla, principal, Christian Mission Higher Secondary School Phek chaired the programme while Vezhoto Soho, Associate Pastor, Phek Town Baptist Church (PTBC) invoked God’s grace.
