Funeral service on March 27 at 9:00 am and 11:00 am
Dimapur, March 26 (MExN): Saku Ao, a prominent citizen of Dimapur and one of the pioneers of Dimapur from the Ao community, passed away on the night of March 25 at Eden Hospital here after a brief illness. He was 94.
A native of Aonokpu village in Mokokchung district, Saku was one of the pioneers in the field of business from the community and was into timber operations, informed a press statement from his family members.
“He took active part in various civil society organisations. He was also one of those few initial members of the Ao Baptist Church in Dimapur. He later served the church as a pastor on two different occasions,” it stated.
“As a notable business man in Dimapur, he was quite popular among the non Naga communities who would refer to him as Saku Babu and later over the years as Saku Baba.” Saku, according to the statement, is also known for various developmental as well as charitable works among his community and also in the state, especially in the present Peren district.
He married Vihieseno from Khonoma village in 1948 and they had 9 children - 8 daughters and 1 son. His son, Moameren Ao, is the founder of St. John Higher Secondary Residential School and St. John College. He is survived by his wife, 1 son, 7 daughters, 1 daughter-in-law, 6 son-in-laws, 31 grandchildren, and 40 great grandchildren.
His funeral service will be held at his residence in Khermahal on March 27 at 9:00 am, then later at 11:00 am at DABA Town Fellowship. He will be buried in the family cemetery in his estate at Khermahal, Dimapur.
