
Dimapur, February 20 (MExN): NEAC Program for the year 2013-14, launched by the Ministry of Environment & Forests, Government of India, in 1986, was organized by Care-Centre for Environment and Rural Poor, (C-Cerp), Dimapur on February 18, at Parish Council Hall, Holy Cross Parish, Dimapur.
The sub-theme was “linkages of Naga culture and biodiversity conservation”. Naga Women from various tribes actively participated in the programme. Liangsi Niumai John, Director of C-Cerp, Dimapur was the resource person.
All the participants realized that indigenous culture is closely connected with biodiversity conservation and as such, everyone agreed to change their attitude and lifestyle and spread the message to others about cultural value system, promote indigenous traditional knowledge of biodiversity conservation and discourage activities/practices that are unsustainable to our biodiversity.
“By the end of the programme, the attitudes and lifestyle of all the participants changed practically by way of not having water from mineral water bottles and enjoyed traditional refreshment with highly nutritious millet mixed with local corn porridge, promoting indigenous food which is free from chemical. Disposable Paper/plastic plates are not used,” said a press release issued by Ch. Mathawang, C-Cerp, Dimapur.
