Kohima, October 23 (MExN): A field day cum Input Distribution Programme under “Promoting pulses and livelihood of Farmers under North East Hill Region (NEHR)” was organised by AICRP on Kharif pulses, SAS:NU, Medziphema campus in collaboration with ICAR-IIPR, Kanpur under NEHR programme at New Chalkot village, Peren district.

Gracing the programme as the special guest on October 21, Dr. Satish Naik SJ, Senior scientist (Plant breeding), ICAR-IIPR, Kanpur explained about the NEH programme, encouraged the farmers about growing pulses and how pigeonpea as a crop can be converted into arhar dal by processing and making it available to the market.

He also mentioned that NEH programme aims to strengthen the livelihood of the farmers in NEH region.

The Programme was chaired by Kavi Sumi, Scientist (Plant pathology) while welcome speech was delivered by Dr Lawrence Kithan, Scientist (Agronomy).

Neivah Hangsing, Agriculture Officer, SDAO Jalukie, Department of Agriculture exhorted the gathering.
Farmers feedback was delivered by Haokam.

The programme concluded with vote of thanks by Dr Akumla Longchar, Scientist (Plant Breeding).

The programme was followed by field visit and interaction with the pulses growing farmers along with all the concerned scientists and officials.

A total of 16 beneficiaries of arhar growers were selected and inputs were distributed for improving its production.
