
Dimapur, October 1 (MExN): Extension Education Institute-North East Region (EEI-NER), Assam Agricultural University (AAU) Jorhat in collaboration with State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI), Nagaland organized training on ‘Promotion of Organic Farming in Nagaland’ from September 25-28 at SAMETI, Medziphema. A press release by Vikaho Chophi, DPD SAMETI stated that the main objective of the training was to impart knowledge and skills on production of agricultural products free from chemicals and pesticides by adopting eco friendly low cost technologies.
The resource persons were Dr. A.K. Bhattacharya, Professor EEI, Assam Agriculture University (AAU), Jorhat and Dr. R. Baruah, Professor, Department of Soil Science (AAU) Jorhat. They covered sessions on Paramparagat Krishi Vikash Yojana (PKVY); Raising organic nursery and organic seed production; Production and application of bio fertilizers as a component of organic farming; Prospects of Organic Agriculture in NE states; An overview on composting-its methods of preparation and application; Importance and cultivation technique of Azolla; Practical demonstration on Azolla; INM; Ways and means of organic standard in organic agriculture; Participatory Guarantee System in Organic Farming (PGS); Identification of potential areas for adoption of organic village and potential commodities; Crucial policies for successful implementation of organic village.
The trainees also visited Bio control laboratory, Bio fertilizer laboratory and Agri. chemistry laboratory Medziphema. The valedictory function was chaired by Dr. Watimongla Jamir, Vice Principal, IETC & In-charge Agri Chemistry Laboratory. Feedback from the trainees was given by Dr. Moasunep A.I. Bio Control Lab, Medziphema and Lily Tungoe ATM (ATMA), Zunheboto.
In their valedictory address, Dr. A.K. Bhattacharya and Dr. R. Baruah encouraged the trainees to impart the knowledge and experience gained during the training to the farming community and to assist and help the farmers to adopt sustainable and environment friendly cultivation methods. They acknowledged SAMETI Nagaland for extending cooperation and making the programme a success. The programme concluded with distribution of certificates, training handouts to the participants and vote of thanks by Vikaho Chophi DPD SAMETI.
