KVK Wokha initiates awareness programme
Wokha, October 7 (MExN): Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Wokha, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Nagaland centre initiated an awareness programme on ‘Promotion of pulses in Wokha district’ under Tribal Sub Plan (TSP) at Lakhuti village under Baghty area on October 3 under the guidance of Dr. Santosh Kr. Baishya, Senior Scientist and Head, KVK Wokha.
Dr. Baishya pointed out the importance of the programme for the farmers of Wokha district. He cited that the objective of the programme was to create awareness among the farmers about cultivation of pulses like lentil, Rajma (Kholar), pea, black gram and green gram.
He also mentioned that farmers of the area can take up pulse cultivation immediately after maize and paddy harvesting to increase the cropping intensity. This intervention will not only increase the farm income but also enhance the nutritional level of farming community through consumption of pulses, he said. He further mentioned that for the first time KVK Wokha has initiated a series of programme for promotion of pulses in the district under TSP where KVK is providing quality seeds, fertilizer, and training on scientific package of practices for pulse cultivation.
Bendangla Imsong, Subject Matter Specialist (Plant Breeding) spoke at length about the scientific cultivation practice of lentil, rajma, green gram and black gram. She also explained about the importance of soil testing and soil health card for the improvement of productivity of crops.
A press release stated that altogether 52 farmers from Baghty area and 5 officials from KVK Wokha, Land Resource department and NGO attended the programme.
