Minister of State of Home Affairs Jitendra Singh told the Lok Sabha in Delhi today that the Union Government has received proposals from eight State governments seeking inclusion of respective dialects to be included in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution. The State and their dialects are Bihar (Bhojpuri), Chhattisgarh (Chhatisgarhi), Sikkim (Bhutia, Lepcha and Limboo), Karnataka (Kodava and Tulu) Mizoram (Mizo) Rajasthan (Rajasthani), Nagaland (Tenyidie) and Himachal Pradesh (Bhoti), stated the minister in his written reply.
“However, these languages are not under active consideration for inclusion in the Eighth Schedule to the Constitution. No proposal has been received for inclusion of Braj in the Eight Schedule. There are no criteria laid down in the Constitution for inclusion of languages in the Eighth Schedule. No time frame for their inclusion in the Eight Schedule of the Constitution can be given,” Jitendra Singh said.
