Senapati | December 1
The planned agitation to restrict driving permissions for Naga, Meitei Pangal, Nepali, and non-local drivers, which was scheduled to commence on December 2 has been temporarily suspended. The Grievances Cell of the Naga Peoples' Organization (NPO) announced this decision on Friday evening, citing an appeal from the Senapati district administration.
A meeting convened at the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Senapati earlier in the day brought together representatives from the Grievances Cell of the NPO, the Truck Owners' Association, and the Drivers' Union of Senapati. During the discussions, the concerns of drivers and truck owners were deliberated, and the district administration assured swift and effective implementation of the conditions stipulated in the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on November 15, 2024.
The Grievances Cell warned that any undue delay in the government's implementation of the agreed terms would compel them to launch a democratic agitation. However, with the administration's assurance, the agitation has been placed on hold.
The NPO emphasized that their decision reflects a temporary pause, pending visible action from the authorities to address the outlined grievances.
