Nagaland Department of Justice & Law organises training-cum-workshop for Prosecution Officers in Dimapur
Dimapur, February 15 (MExN): The Department of Justice & Law, Government of Nagaland organized two-day training-cum-workshop for Prosecution Officers at Law Department, Dimapur on February 14 and 15.
“The primary purpose for conducting the training cum workshop for Prosecution Officers is a fulfillment of a long felt need not only training for the purpose of sharing and updating legal knowledge but also to interact and discuss the challenges and areas for improvement concerning the functioning of the officers and the Department in general,” Khanrinla T Koza, Secretary, J&L stated in her keynote address.
“In our legal profession there is always a constant need to learn as there are many laws that are evolving because of amendments, due to changes in the society, bringing it with new policies, new laws and new offences,” Koza said.
The Secretary also mentioned that in any profession as also in the legal profession there is always a requirement to learn and work under a senior who can guide us and give us a clearer interpretation and understanding of the laws.
“Therefore, I would like to encourage the juniors to respect and to be humble to take the help and guidance of the seniors. And to the seniors I request you to share your knowledge and experience with the juniors. Don't wait to be consulted - take the initiative and give good advice and assistance. Although you perform independently inside the Court, don't carry that mentality outside of the Court Room,” Koza added.
“Protocol and decorum should be maintained because we are not in competition with each other. Learn to respect your superior and Controlling Officers. This is the basic fibre of the Government servants Conduct Rules 1968 to maintain devotion and integrity at all times,” the Secretary said while encouraging “fraternity amongst the officers and an attitude of extending helping hand and support to one another.”
The Secretary also called to encourage the officers to have a willingness to attend training programme whenever nominated. While informing that the training programme for February and March 2020 will be circulated, Kosa said laptops, for PPs and Addl PPs may be collected from the office.
“The next batch of officers will be nominated as and when the Department receives the invitation from the various training centres and Academy,” the Secretary added.
During the workshop, the following resource persons spoke on the respective topics: Kathu Rengma, Public Prosecutor, Kohima - ‘Nature and duties of Prosecutors and Government Pleaders’; Y Longkumer, Principal District & Session Judge, Dimapur – ‘Role of Prosecutors in the Court’; Partha Pratim Baruah, Public Prosecutor, Gauhati High court – ‘Role of Prosecutors in Indian Criminal Justice System.’
