‘Expecting students to pass exam without providing pre-requisites of learning is not a good notion’
Tuensang, December 5 (MExN): The Pathso Range Students’ Union (PRSU), the apex students’ body of eight villages under Noklak sub-division in Tuensang district, has raised “revulsion” against the “tendentious” move of the Department of School Education to downgrade few Government High Schools to Government Middle Schools in the state.
The Department of School Education in a notification dated November 13, 2017 informed that seven Government High Schools will be downgraded with effect from academic year 2018-19 for producing Nil results in the HSLC examinations for the last three consecutive years or more. Government High School (GHS) Panso under Noklak sub-division is one of the seven.
In a press statement, PRSU stated that the lone GHS in its area has become a “victim” of the decision. It termed the move “unprecedented and a clear sign of pervasive discrimination of education agenda in providing equitable and inclusive quality education in the State without taking into considerations the horrifying realities.”
“Expecting students to pass an exam without providing the pre-requisites of learning is not a good notion in imparting a real education,” PRSU asserted. Maintaining that “it is unfair to assassinate the caretaker of a malnourished child,” the students’ body stated, through the move “right to basic education has been snatched and future of the less privileged got strangulated.”
The other six schools which will be downgraded are: GHS Sakshi, Longleng; GHS Chingmei, Tuensang; GHS Phenshunyu, Kohima; GHS Seyochung, Kiphire; GHS Bura Namsang, Longleng; GHS Noksen, Tuensang.
