Launches second phase of inspections
LONGLENG, JULY 11 (MExN): The Phom Students’ Conference (PSC) has launched the second phase of departmental inspections across Longleng district as part of its ongoing initiative to promote accountability and efficient public service delivery.
The student body said the inspections aim to assess the functioning of government offices and ensure that essential services are reaching the public. The first round of inspections, recently completed, covered five key departments, revealing both commendable performances and serious service gaps.
According to PSC findings, the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) Longleng has remained locked and non-functional for over six months despite repeated notices. Terming it a matter of deep concern, the PSC urged immediate resumption of operations.
At the District Public Relations Office (DPRO), two staff members—a UDA and an Assistant Photographer—were found absent, with the department flagged for irregular attendance and lack of discipline.
The District Soil Conservation Office was also found closed at the time of inspection, with no staff present. The PSC has called for clarification on its status.
Meanwhile, the District Water Resources Department was noted for providing timely services, but concerns were raised over inconsistent staff presence, reportedly due to inadequate staff housing. The PSC has issued a warning to the department to address the issue.
The District Agriculture Office received praise for its efficient operations and successful project implementation. The PSC commended the department for its dedication to serving the community.
In a joint statement, PSC president C. Sham-e Phom and general secretary Imkongchingba Phom called on all underperforming departments to resume full operations within one month, warning that failure to comply may lead to further public scrutiny and follow-up action.
Heads of departments stationed outside Longleng have also been urged to return to their respective postings to ensure smooth functioning.
The PSC reaffirmed its commitment to holding public offices accountable and ensuring that essential services are delivered transparently and effectively to the people of Longleng district.
