PTC for immediate corrective measure

BRO staff accused of using “expired cement”

Dimapur, July 25 (MExN): Following innumerable complaints received from the general Pubic, Dingulo Khutsoh, Chairperson, Pfutsero Town Council (PTC), Er. Sungtiba Amer, EE PWD (R & B) Pfutsero and his staff visited Km 65 to Km 68 of National Highway 150 which is being maintained by the BRO.

During their visit cum inspection of the NH-150 on July 23, 2009 a serious malpractice was detected and verified at Location KM 67.6 pertaining to the construction of One meter Span RCC Culvert. The BRO Staff were getting ready to cast the slab with “expired cement, stone dust and sub-standard aggregates, CRSM abutment walls for slabs” were constructed using stone dust instead of Deopani Sand. Reinforcement for slabs was all cut pieces 16 mm dia. And 8 mm dia, Distribution bars which are said to not at all as per the specifications for National Highways standards The Chairperson, PTC asked the BRO staff to stop the works immediately till corrective measures were taken.

Further, most of the stretches of the NH-150 are waterlogged with gaping potholes and no signs of side drainage which makes driving both treacherous and dangerous. The PTC has taken a very serious view about the use of spurious and substandard materials for maintenance of the NH-150 by the BRO completely disregarding the safety of commuters.

Senowelo Mero, Office Secretary, Pfutsero Town Council in a press release said that it is pertinent to note that the PTC and EE, PWD (R & B) Pfutsero had approached the BRO authorities to take up improvement / strengthening works along the NH 150 falling under Pfutsero Sub-Division but all their pleas had fallen in to deaf ears and no action what so ever has been carried out by the BRO.
