PTSU highlights shortage of teachers, classrooms in Pungro; urges dept for action

Kiphire, March 27 (MExN): The Pungro Town Students’ Union (PTSU) today highlighted shortage of teachers and classrooms it detected during its visit to seven schools in Pungro.  

PTSU officials had visited 3 government schools and 4 private institutions, namely Little Flower School Pungro, Mount Horeb Baptist School Pungro, Around Saramati Mountain School Pungro, and Christian High School Pungro on March 27.  

A press release from Adilen Yimchunger, PTSU Vice President informed that the PTSU officials found the lone GHSS Pungro in Pungro sub-division had only 4 Post-Graduate teachers and inadequate subject teachers in the High School section; Government Middle School Pungro had only 2 Graduate Teachers, while Government Primary School Forest Ward Pungro had just 2 classrooms and students of different classes were clubbed together in the two classrooms.  

The union mentioned that Longtsuthong L has been rendering voluntary service with paltry payment as honorarium in the absence of PGT (Political Science) at the GHSS since the academic year 2016. Therefore, the union appealed to the department concerned to swiftly see to the needs of the students’ community.  

It was further informed that during the visit, the PTSU officials asked the students to maintain decent conduct in and out of their respective institutions. They further laid out the PTSU Working Calendar 2017, which consists of various inter-school co-curricular activities and called on the students for active participation, the release added.  

Meanwhile, the union cautioned the students to abstain from usage of tobacco products and served a notice to them that defaulters will be seriously penalized.
