Public funeral held in Zunheboto

DIMAPUR, JANUARY 2: A mammoth gathering of people, on January 1 in Zunheboto, paid tribute to the two civilians who died as a result of the confrontation between Sumi public and the NSCN (IM) at Mukalimi designated camp, under Zunheboto district recently. The deceased have been identified as Paketo (20) from Mishilimi village and Ghukiye (48) of Khekiye village. Paketo was killed on December 28 while Ghukiye succumbed to injuries on December 31. Sumi Hoho Secretary, Vihuto informed that in honor of the deceased, a Sumi Martyrs Park will be created in Sukhalu village, at the site where the deceased have been laid to rest. It was informed that at the public funeral, the gathering resolved that, if out of the incident in Mukalimi designated camp, any threat or untoward incident befalls Sumi leaders; the Sumi public would again rise up. A proposal to declare December 28 as Sumi Martyrs Day was also tabled. It was further informed that a delegation of the Konyak Union will meet with Sumi Hoho officials on January 3 to express solidarity. Furthermore, Sumi Hoho has called a meeting of the Head GBs, Council Chairmen and VDB Secretaries of all Sumi villages at 9:00 am at the Sumi Hoho Ki in Zunheboto.
