“For progress of any society we have to take the lead and rectify the errors before it become cancerous,” said Longtiba SDO (C), Kiphire while speaking as independent observer at the district level public hearing on social audit under MGNREGA in Kiphire district at Hopongkyu memorial hall. The audit was organised by the society for training and research on rural development social audit unit Nagaland on November 29.
Expressing serious concern Longtiba said, “this is the third time attending district level public hearing on social audit under MGNREGA but the same error is appearing repeatedly which shows lack of sincerity and co-ordination amongst the stakeholders and also within the department.” He made an appeal to all to come together if developmental gaols are to be achieved.
Meanwhile, he expressed hope that the department and the leaders in village will be sincere and transparent in their assignment from now on so that such anomalies doesn’t happen again and advise to take immediate measures so that the district moves ahead in all developmental activities.
Sharing his observation the SDO (c) also asked the gathering to have same concern for growth as they have concern for money and also suggest the department to conduct training on book keeping and record maintenance as most of the village is lacking in this sector.
He also said, with the funding and the funds received, the district should be in different position in development by now and asked the department and the village elders to have transparency and accountability in everything they do.
Imtitoshi, state resource person SAU who gave an introduction said that the job of social audit team is not to find fault but to find facts for social change and also added, with this we hope to see change as the team is an agent of change and not change maker. He also added that the aim of the social audit is to create awareness where tight and entitlement is sensitised to the stakeholders.
The day long social audit for all the seven villages revolve round the issue of job card, non-availability of transparency board, issues in master roll and other related issues.
Chairing the programme Setsathong PD, DRDA said, the sole intention of social audit is for the progress in development and not to find fault.
