Pughoboto strives for ‘Progressive Environment’

Pughoboto, June 16 (MExN): A seminar on biodiversity conservation was organised by the Sub-Divisional Planning & Development Board (SDPDB) Pughoboto under the theme ‘Progressive Environment’ on June 13 at ADC Pughoboto office.  

Resource person Nuklu Phom, a prominent figure in biodiversity conservation in the State, dwelled on biodiversity conservation and its contribution towards sustainable environment and improved livelihood, a DIPR report informed. He emphasized on combination of scientific mechanism and traditional knowledge for conservation of the atmosphere.  

Nuklu suggested morung education for biodiversity conservation. Hunting of birds reduces germination of forest and also using salt and other chemicals negatively affect the soil, he stated. The resource person further urged the people to stop lifting river boulders and called upon all to ponder on the drastic change of climate and take steps for preventive measure.   He also emphasized on GPS mapping for forest conservation and expressed gratitude to the MLA and administrators of the sub-division for their concern in biodiversity conservation.  

MLA & SDPDB Pughoboto chairman, Y Vikheho Swu in his opening note lamented that due to mismanagement by human beings we are experiencing heavy rains, landslides etc. Reducing plantations make the earth warmer by the day, he stressed, urging the entire 24 villages under Pughoboto sub-division to maintain ‘One Forest Reserve’.  

SDO (C) Pughoboto Tiayanger Jamir initiated the interactive session. The seminar was attended by the village councils, representative from the villages, teachers and students of the sub-division.
