
Dimapur, April 2 (MExN): Nagaland along with other states in India administrated the 2nd round of Intensive Pulse Polio Immunisation (IPPI) on April 2 under the supervision of Department of Health & Family Welfare.
Dimapur
On April 2, Dimapur District Department of Health & Family Welfare conducted the Second Round of IPPI Polio Sunday. Dr. K. Vikato Kinimi, Chief Medical Officer launched the Polio Sunday by administering the first two drops of polio.
Dr. Lanuakum, DPO RCH/UIP informed that during the First Round of IPPI 2017, the coverage was 101 %. He attributed the success of Polio Sunday not only to the hard work of the health workers, but also to the co-operation and active participation of the allied Departments such as the Administration, Social Welfare Department, Assam Rifles, Para Militaries, all the community leaders, NGOs, and volunteers who have been tirelessly contributing and supporting the Medical Department over the years.
The brief launching function was attended by officials and staff under CMO office and Staff under Medical Superintendent, District Hospital Dimapur.
Kohima
CMO Dr. Avino Metha stated that IPPI has been a regular activity with a goal to eradicate polio in the country. The country would be free from Polio with collective support from the citizen, she said. In Kohima District, with 270063 population, a target of 37808 children of five years and below are to avail polio drops. Two mobile polio teams on IPPI would be visiting four transit points especially bus stations and taxi stands in the district for the next two days.
Mokokchung
The 2nd round of IPPI of Mokokchung District was conducted at Imlong place on April 2. M. Chaitanya Prasad IAS (P) Assistant Commissioner was the chief guest where he administered the first polio drop. In his short speech, he encouraged the health workers to give the best and every effort for a free polio zone. Dr. Temsuyanger DPO (RCH&UIP) chaired the programme where he gave a short introduction about IPPI.
House to House visit for those missed out will be done on April 3 and 4. Altogether there are 209 polio booths. The programme was attended by Dr. S.S. Akaba Longchar CMO, Red cross, UNDP, Rotary club, etc.
Tuensang
Tuensang District Health Society on April 2 conducted the second round of Pulse Polio in the District. The launching programme was held at Urban Sub-Centre of Chief Medical Officer. The first two drops of polio was administered by Dr. T. Pangjung Sangtam CMO in the presence of Dr. Temsu Longchar DPO, (RCH & UIP) and Staffs. The department has mobilised 1,250 vaccinators, 46 Supervisors in all the eight blocks of the District to cover over 27,552 estimated children below 5 years. A total of 267 polio booths and 534 house to house teams will cover the district.
