Dimapur: The excise personnel stationed at Chumukedima check gate found 864 canned beer concealed amongst 17 tons of grocery items in a truck on April 19. A press release from GhokihoYeptho, superintendent of Excise Mobile Squad informed that the goods laden truck bound for Pungro was stopped at the check gate around 5:00 pm by the duty party led by Inspector L. Hevito Zhimomi and Lanuyanger AIE.
According to the note, Azizu Sangtam, the driver of the truck was arrested and charged under relevant section of the NLTP Act ’89 for his involvement in the commission of the offence. He disclosed that the illegal consignment was loaded at Gorrapatti Dimapur and was to be delivered to one Longpe (Ape) at Pungro town under Kiphire district. The seized articles have been kept in the Mobile Squad Malkhana for future destruction, the superintendent added.
