With the theme “Your Mental Health is Your Wealth,” the Pungro Village Students’ Union (PVSU) organised an awareness programme on mental health on July 26 at Pungro Village, aimed at fostering holistic well-being, academic resilience, and social awareness among students and the community.

Dr Sikukhiumew, Medical Officer at Community Health Centre (CHC) Pungro, served as the resource person. In his keynote address, Dr. Sikukhiumew emphasised that nearly one in four people experience mental health challenges—often unknowingly. He underlined the importance of recognising mental health as an essential aspect of overall well-being, pointing out that it affects individuals across all age groups.

He highlighted unresolved childhood trauma as a common root cause of mental distress and encouraged participants to practise positive thinking and self-awareness. Stressing that people often neglect their mental well-being while striving in life, he reminded attendees that “health is the greatest wealth.”

Vongtsukiu, Head GB, Pungro Village, urged students to remain focused on their studies and strive for a better future.

Joshua, Secretary of the Yimkhiung Youth Organisation, lauded the initiative and stressed that mental health is a collective responsibility, involving not just individuals but also institutions such as the government, churches, and educational bodies. He called for a shift from individualism to communal care and support.

The programme was moderated by Khuzhokla, Assistant Secretary for Art & Culture, PVSU. The invocation prayer was led by Sushenla, representing the Pungro Village Baptist Borü, followed by a welcome address from the PVSU President.

The programme also included a special presentation by Sujali, adding a cultural touch to the event. Shihsumew C, Vice President of PVSU, delivered the vote of thanks, expressing appreciation to all participants and contributors. The event concluded with a benediction by Vasangla CE from PVBB.
