PVSU holds 54th general session & annual sports meet

PUNGRO, DECEMBER 29 (MExN): The 54th general session and annual sports meet of the Pungro Village Students’ Union (PVSU) was inaugurated on December 27, with the theme ‘Transforming Information into Knowledge.’ The event took place at the Pungro Village community hall and was graced by Rev. Fr. Thomas Toretkiu, Associate Priest of St. Peter’s Parish in Kiphire.

The ceremony began with an opening prayer led by Muling UPC. In his welcome address, PVSU President Lesemew highlighted Rev. Fr. Thomas Toretkiu's significant achievements. He noted that Fr. Toretkiu was not only the first male graduate from Pungro Village but also the first person from the area to be ordained as a priest. Lesemew expressed the honor and privilege felt by the students to have Fr. Toretkiu inaugurate the session.

The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Sudanvito Justin, WRDO; James, Kiphire & Amahotor Area Commander of VG; Vongtokiu VCC; Pehoto, DB; Dr. W. Birimong, Pastor of PVBB; as well as various village leaders and students.

In his address, Rev. Fr. Toretkiu spoke about the rapidly changing world, emphasizing the importance of navigating the flood of information in the digital age. "We live in a world of Meta AI, where information is at our fingertips," he said. He cautioned that much of this information is raw data and needs to be filtered and analyzed to determine its relevance and usefulness.

According to Fr. Toretkiu, the ability to synthesize knowledge and make informed decisions is vital for effective problem-solving and critical thinking. He linked these ideas to the theme of the session, ‘Transforming Information into Knowledge’, and shared his personal journey both in India and abroad to illustrate the importance of continuous learning.

Vongtokiu VCC also addressed the gathering, encouraging students to incorporate faith and spirituality into their educational journey. Tsiurile V., a Nagaland HSLC Top-4 rank holder, shared her own academic experiences, urging students to maintain discipline, dedication, and commitment to achieving their goals.

The event featured a variety of activities, including an oath-taking ceremony, a march past, the presentation of special awards, and a performance of a special song by college students. Lensela, General Secretary of PVSU, delivered the vote of thanks, while Tsuyila, APW of PVBB, offered the benediction, bringing the program to a close.
