PWD Minister, Tongpang Ozukum who is on a state-wide tour inspecting ongoing road repairs and maintenance works visited Mon on Friday and expressed satisfaction with the work progress.
In Mon, the PWD (R&B) Department is undertaking six roads where potholes filling have been almost completed and bituminous works in some sectors remaining. Despite rain during the visit, the Minister inspected the ongoing and completed roads and lauded the Engineers and staff for their sincerity.
Battling against time and inclement weather, the Department is wasting no time to see that the works are completed on time.
During his visit, officials of R&B Mon briefed the Minister on the progress of works. Officials of Housing and Mechanical, Mon and other divisions also shared their grievance with the Minister who assured of looking into the issues raised.
Tongpang visited the PWD Store at Mon town where he was apprised of the need to have a Working Shed cum Garage for the Mechanical Department in the Store premises. Responding to this, the Minister directed the SDO (Mechanical) Mon to submit a proposal through proper channel.
He was also informed about land encroachment inside the premises of the Store. In this regard, he urged the District Administration to extend cooperation to the PWD (H) in protecting government land and acquiring pattas accordingly.
Later, the Minister visited office of the EE (R&B) Mon Division where he held a meeting with the officers and District administration. Tongpang requested DC Mon, K. Thavaseelan who was also present to extend its support to the Department in road repair works and also protection of government land.
The DC assured of full cooperation and thanked the Minister for visiting the district. He requested the Minister to seriously look into the various pending road projects in the district under NLCPR, PMGSY and Prime Minister’s package. DC expressed the hope that under the dynamic leadership of Tongpang, progress and development would be realized in PWD sector. In the meeting, Tongpang said that the PDA Government was committed to bring change for the people and that road sector among others was on top priority for the government.
“We want to see the efficiency of the engineers and for which we have allotted the works to the department. It is like an acid test for all engineers and so you must show what you are capable of,” he said. So far, Tongpang has visited eight districts and would soon be visiting the remaining districts.
SE (R&B) Mon Circle, Tiameren thanked the Minister for showing his concern for the people by visiting Mon. He apprised that the administration and police were extending full cooperation to the department in executing the work. During the road inspection, a host of other officers including EEs (R&B) of Mon, Aboi, Naginimora and SDOs R&B, Mechanical and Housing, Mon and Phomching division, EAC Mon, OSD to Chief Minister and NDPP ex-candidate, Awan Konyak also accompanied the Minister.
