Pfuchatsumia Youth Organisation (PYO) Kohima village today expressed concern and disappointment over the continued neglect of National Highway 150, particularly the Pezielietsie to Keyake stretch, which falls under the jurisdiction of the National Highway Division No. 1, Nagaland.

The PYO stated that despite repeated appeals, both verbal and written, highlighting the critical condition of this vital route, “no significant steps have been taken by the department concerned.”

“This road is a lifeline for local residents, commuters, schoolchildren, and emergency services, as well as for commercial transport vehicles. Yet, it has been left in a perilous state,” stated PYO president Viyhodelie Rame.

The Organization drew public attention to Office Order No. CE/NH/NH(O)/2021-22/114/(Vol-I) 857 dated April 21, 2025, in which the department committed to completing road repair within 15 (fifteen) days.

“The assurance was made in writing and supported by photographic evidence. Sadly, almost three months have passed, and not a single substantial measure has been undertaken to fulfil that commitment,” Rame stated.

The PYO lamented that the condition of the road has now deteriorated to dangerous levels, marked by deep craters, eroded surfaces, regular mudslides, and constant vehicle breakdowns.

Stating that commuting through this route has become a daily risk, with immense hardship being endured by all sections of society, the organization stated “The prolonged inaction, despite repeated follow-ups and official commitments, is unacceptable and reflects a disturbing apathy towards public welfare and infrastructure maintenance.”

The silence from the department only adds to public frustration and disillusionment, it stated.

Also stating that PYO has exercised restraint and patience for a considerable time, it stated “However, if work on the said road is not initiated within 7 (seven) days from the date of this publication, the organisation will be left with no other option but to close the said road as a mark of public protest.”

Any inconvenience or fallout from such action shall be the sole responsibility of the department and the Government of Nagaland for having failed to address repeated and legitimate public grievances, the organization stated.
