
DIMAPUR, JANUARY 30 (MExN): Qhehoyi village inducted a new village ‘gaon burrah’ (headman) on Thursday. Former member of the Dimapur Municipal Council, Kuhoi Zhimo was inducted as the ‘gaon burrah’ at an induction programme held today in the village. Qhehoyi was established in the year 1982 and is yet to be officially recognized as a village.
The programme had in attendance representatives from the Western Sumi Hoho, Western Sumi Kukami Hoho (WSKH), Western Sumi Totimi Hoho, and Aqahuto Area GB's Union. Rajya Sabha (RS) member, Khekiho Zhimomi and former MLA, Azheto Zhimomi were also present. Speaking at the programme, RS member, Zhimomi regarded the day as significant for the people of Aqahuto area and in particular, Qhehoyi village. While congratulating the new ‘gaon burrah’, Zhimomi urged Zhimo to work for the interest of the village.
WSKH president Isaoto Zhimo, said that the position of ‘gaon burrah’ in Sumi custom is highly regarded. While stating that not everyone can become headman, he urged the newly inducted ‘gaon burrah’ to speak for the voiceless. Kuhoi Zhimomi, in his address, while expressing gratitude, assured that it will be his objective to work for the village and Aqahuto area in general. He said that his purpose will be to serve.
