Queen Mary Higher Secondary School (QMHSS) emerged as the champions of the 1st Inter High School & Higher Secondary School Annual Basketball Tournament 2025, securing both the boys’ and girls’ titles in the finale held at the BAMD Basketball Court, Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung, on July 12.
Organized by the Basketball Association Mokokchung District (BAMD) under the aegis of the Nagaland Basketball Association (NBA), the three-day tournament was held under the theme “Forging Future.”
In the boys’ final, QMHSS delivered a commanding performance, defeating Mayangnokcha Government Higher Secondary School (MGHSS) with a convincing scoreline of 59–29. Earlier, QMHSS had secured their place in the final after overpowering Eden Academy 69–37 in the second semi-final, while MGHSS advanced by defeating Clark Memorial Higher Secondary School, Impur, in the first semi-final.
In the girls’ category, QMHSS triumphed over Eden Academy with a decisive 15–05 victory in the final, completing a clean sweep and highlighting the school’s dominance in both divisions.
A total of 24 matches were played during the tournament, featuring 13 teams—comprising nine boys’ teams and four girls’ teams—from nine schools across Mokokchung district.
The champions in both the boys’ and girls’ categories were awarded a cash prize of `15,000, along with certificates and running trophies, while the runners-up received a cash prize of `10,000, certificates, and trophies.
Individual talents were also recognised for outstanding performance:
• Boys’ Most Valuable Player (MVP): Odao Amri (QMHSS)
• Boys’ Most Promising Player (MPP): Imkongakum (Eden Academy)
• Girls’ MVP: Tasenyangla Longchar (QMHSS)
• Girls’ MPP: Narosen Lusang (Eden Academy)
As part of its ongoing initiative to develop grassroots basketball in the district, BAMD has selected 24 boys and 14 girls from various participating schools for an upcoming dedicated coaching and scouting programme.
The selected players, identified by a designated scouting committee, were chosen based on their performance during the tournament. The programme is aimed at nurturing young talent, enhancing competitive skills, and building a future-ready basketball ecosystem in Mokokchung.
