Rabies control training held at Phek

DIMAPUR, APRIL 21 (MExN): The Integrated Disease Surveillance Program (IDSP) Phek under the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Office on April 20 conducted a training on Rabies Control at the CMO conference hall, Phek. 

The objective of the training was to prevent and control deaths due to Rabies in humans and progressively achieve the global target for “Rabies-Zero by 2030,” informed a press release issued by the CMO office.  

Dr Seyiekhrietuo Rutsa, Paediatrician, District Hospital, Phek who was the resource person explained that Rabies is a viral disease which is transmitted to humans through bites and scratches usually via saliva of rabid animal. He added that the symptoms of rabies include pain at the area of the bite wound or scratch, fear of water (hydrophobia), restlessness, excessive salivation and convulsion. The disease can also be fatal. 

The dos and don’ts after post-exposure prophylaxis, pre-exposure rabies vaccination, number of vaccination of dog etc. were also highlighted. The training was attended by the Block Medical Officers of Phek District.
