Kuda Village B-Khel makes gutter to divert floodwater

Dimapur, September 22 (MExN): In an urgent measure to ease the impact of floods on residents, the Kuda Village B-Khel Council on September 19 constructed a temporary nallah gutter to channel accumulated floodwater into the Dhansiri River at the worst-hit area in Mao Colony under Kuda Village B-Khel.

According to the council, the 70-foot gutter was built with high-grade CGI sheets supported by multiple sturdy bamboo stilts extending into the river from the eroded section. The structure has already begun diverting floodwater into the river, providing temporary relief to residents.

“The recent monsoon rains has caused substantial loss of property, plot erosions and flooding into many homes in the area,” the council stated. “While anticipating help from the Government, seeing the suffering of public with no respite, Kuda Villager B-Khel authority led by Chairman Ketusilie Sakhrie and GB Pitor Khekho, has mobilized its meagre funds on priority to mitigate the misery despite its limited capacity.”

The Kuda Village B-Khel Council also urged the Government, the District Administration, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and other concerned agencies to “expedite relief and flood control measures on top priority.”

The initiative is described as a humble effort by the local authority to mitigate the misery of villagers until more permanent solutions are implemented.
