Radhikapur gets another direct train to Kolkata

Extension of Radhikapur-Howrah Radhikapur Express was flagged off at Radhikapur railway station on February 29.

 

Maligaon, February 29 (MExN): Suresh C Angadi, Minister of State for Railways & Sushree Debasree   Chaudhuri, Minister of State for Women & Child Development, flagged off the extension of Radhikapur-Howrah Radhikapur Express at a public function organized at Radhikapur railway station today.

 

A press release from Subhanan Chanda, Chief Public Relations Officer stated that at present, there was only one express train connecting Radhikapur with Kolkata.

 

There had been a long-standing demand from the people of the area to introduce a morning train that one can take to reach Kolkata during the day, so that the elderly people do not have to undertake overnight journey, the release said, while adding, the new train will partly fulfill that demand.

 

The new train will leave Radhikapur at 11.30 am everyday and reach Howrah at 11:00 pm covering the distance in 11 hours and 30 minutes. This will fulfill the long-felt need of a daily train in the morning hours for the people of Radhikapur, Kaliganj, Raiganj and adjoining areas.

 

Radhikapur is an essential Railway Station of Katihar Division that falls under Kaliaganj Community Development Block of Uttar Dinajpur district, West Bengal. It is situated near Birol, a major transit point of Indo – Bangladesh border, the release added.
