“Read Nagaland” prog in all the GPS under progress

Rain coats were provided to 57, 616 students from Class five to eight during 2007 – 2008 by the state’s department of school education. In order to boost up the morale of the girl child, schools bags was provided to 23, 896 girl students during 2004 – 2005, 32, 389 students in 2005 – 2006 and 46,446 students in 2006 – 2007.
According to the annual administrative report of the department of school education tabled at the recent state assembly session, note books were provided to both boys and girls.
92, 965 students were provided with note books during 2004 – 2005, 51, 702 in 2005 –2006 and 58, 267 in 2006 – 2007. Further, ECCE kits were provided to 41 EBRC centres during 2004 – 2005, 723 GPS in 2005 – 2006, 406 GPS in 2006 – 2007 and 330 GPS during 2007 – 2008.
The report also stated that till date 110 government schools is covered under Computer Aided Learning and six GMS covered under Computer Aided Learning.
Also, till date, SMA identified 4, 490 children with special needs (CWSN) out of which 469 children were provided with aids and appliances ranging from spectacle, hearing aids, crutches and wheel chairs.
The report also said that non availability of trained personnel to handle CWSN has been one of the biggest challenges for SMA. Accordingly efforts are on to train its own resource person with expertise drawn from a panel from amongst the practitioners. Altogether, 35 resource persons in the EBRC were trained on special education and another 41 are in progress.
Further, Pratham Mumbai initiative has conducted study on learning achievement in primary school in four districts during 2006 – 2007 and two districts in 2007 – 2008. Also, “Read Nagaland” programme in all the GPS is under progress from 2007 – 2008, the report said adding work education was started in all middle school from the academic session 2008.
