Kohima was in for a major power supply disruption as a result of the rainstorm on Tuesday afternoon. According to a Department official, supply to almost the entire district was disrupted as lines emerging from the Kohima Sub-station snapped and poles fell in several locations.

“Several outgoing 33KV and 11KV feeders from 132/33 KV RESS Kohima (Minister’s Hill) has developed charging problem, thereby leaving a huge number of registered consumers without power supply,” informed Executive Engineer, Kohima Electrical Division Rukongutuo Suohu in a press release.  He added that sincere efforts were on to restore damaged lines and poles.

When contacted by The Morung Express, Suoho said that trees fell in many locations snapping lines and affecting poles.

“Restoration work was launched on a war footing and we could restore supply some lines, he said, while adding that priority was given to restore lines feeding hospitals and important government offices tasked with COVID-19 works.

By evening, supply was restored to the NHAK, Secretariat and Raj Bhawan and localities falling in their vicinity.

“If the weather permits, work will go on but if the rain continues, we will have to suspend work at some point in the night,” Suoho said.

Meanwhile, there were reports of students unable to submit academic assignments online for the day. According to one student at Minister’s Hill, she could not submit her under-graduate paper assignments within the stipulated deadline because of the power failure.
