DIMAPUR, JANUARY 19 (MExN): Meghalaya lead Nagaland by 124 runs at stumps on day one of the Ranji Trophy match at MCA Polo Ground in Shillong on January 19.
Winning the toss, Meghalaya sent Nagaland to bat first and taking advantage of the morning conditions were able to draw first blood to take control of the game before lunch and Nagaland was left reeling.
Akash Kumar was spitting fire as he scalped 7 wickets in 11 overs to restrict Nagaland at 72 runs all out in 23.4 overs.
Meghalaya in their 1st innings too had a shaky start as Karan Tewatiya and Jaganath Sinivas combined to remove the 4 top order batsmen of the Meghalaya team by taking 2 wickets each. However Kishan (58) and Swarajeet Das (63) combined to steady the innings for the home team.
Meghalaya scored 196 runs losing 7 wickets and took 124 runs lead on Day 1 with Jaskirat batting on 18* runs and Dippu with 2* runs. Tahmeed Rahman with 3 wickets provided the much needed breakthrough for the Nagaland team by picking up the wicket of Kishan and Swarajeet Das who looked in fine form. Nagaland will look to bowl out Meghalaya in the morning session itself tomorrow and make some display with the bat too if they want to stay in the game and are to go for a win from here on.
