A man accused of raping a minor succumbed to injury reportedly sustained from a public beating. According to the police, the man, identified as one Dilip Kumar Singh (45 years), was caught “red handed” by residents of a locality in Burma Camp.
The incident occurred sometime in the afternoon on March 27. He was allegedly “caught in the act” following which he was beaten by irate residents of the neighbourhood before being admitted to a hospital. Another version of the thrashing has it that the man fell and hit his head while running from the irate mob.
He succumbed to his injury on Thursday morning, the police.
The condition of the victim, a one-year old baby girl, was reported to be critical on Wednesday evening but her condition stabilized as on Thursday, the police added.
