The police have reportedly ruled out rape in the suspected rape and murder of the 35 year-old woman, whose body was found on April 7. Though not officially confirmed by police, the information was disclosed by President of the Zeliangrong Youth Organisation Nagaland (ZYON), R John Zeliang, on April 14.
Zeliang told The Morung Express that Zeliangrong youth and student organisations met the Commissioner of Police, Dimapur, on April 14. The 4-day ultimatum served by the ZYON, on April 11, to reveal the details of the police investigation, including post mortem, forensic and number of arrests, expires on April 15.
He cited the CP as stating that it was a case of murder. Zeliang however declined to reveal finer details citing a request from the CP. According to him, confidentiality was requested in the interest of the investigation.
The youth leader said, “He assured us to reveal the details in about a week’s time. I can’t reveal all that the CP told us about the case in the interest of the ongoing police investigation.”
He added that the ZYON, along with other Zeliangrong organisations, had also met the village council of the village to which the victim was native to, on Monday. According to him, it was decided that if any individual from the victim’s village was found to be involved, they would be dealt with as per customary law.
The body of the victim, a vegetable vendor by profession, was discovered half clothed and throat slit at a secluded area in Pimla village, Chümoukedima.
