Ration Card portability exercise begins in Nagaland

DIMAPUR, JUNE 4 (MExN): The Food and Civil Supplies Department has issued a notice informing the implementation of Ration Card portability under ‘One Nation One Ration Card.’

Implementation of RC portability has been started in the State of Nagaland with effect from June 3 covering 76 Fair Price Shops in Dimapur district as 1st phase. All 76 FPS earmarked in the 1st phase should ensure implementation of the programme aimed for the welfare and benefit of the beneficiaries and that, no NFSA beneficiaries coming to avail their entitlement of the subsidized food grain should be denied of their rights, the department notified.

The Ration Card portability shall remain active in all the 76 earmarked FPSs at Dimapur (1st Phase) for the NFSA beneficiaries.

Eligible NFSA beneficiaries covered by the 76 earmarked FPSs at Dimapur will be able to avail food grains from any of the 76 FPSs using the same Ration Card. The same exercise will be rolled out in phase-manner in the remaining FPSs in other districts of the state.

The Integrated Management Public Distribution System (IMPDS) portal provides the technological platform for the Inter-State portability of Ration Card. Earlier; a beneficiary could buy food grains only from the FPS that was assigned to her/him in the locality in which she/he lives.  But with the implementation on the ‘One Nation One Ration Card’ beneficiaries can buy subsidized food grains (Rice) at Rs. 3 per kg anywhere where Ration Card portability is being implemented.

Under the said system, the beneficiaries will be enabled to purchase the food grains under the NFSA by identifying the beneficiaries through Aadhaar based biometric authentication on electronic Point of Sale (ePOS) devices installed at the FPS.
