Mokokchung, October 27 (MExN): The Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) today said that the recent rationalisation of teachers in Nagaland has created a rather “obnoxious environment” especially for the students and called for a ‘rational and professional’ review.
Whatever claims and justifications the State government may make, it is clearly evident the rationalisation exercise was conducted “without proper consultation, verification and scrutiny,” maintained a press release issued by the AKM President, Nungdokyanger Ao and General Secreary, Nekmi Longkumer.
The inappropriate and/or disproportionate posting of teachers in schools is deeply affecting the students, it said. Some schools have excess teachers leaving others inadequate with subject teachers and some schools have hired private teachers sponsored by the community during the current academic session, it added.
The acute shortage of teachers in many government schools across the State is clearly an irrefutable truth, which the State government is “not willing to face,” the AKM asserted.
It further cited how the State Government assented to the demand of the Tzurangkong Kaketshir Mungdang (TKM) with a redeployment order issued by the Directorate of School Education on October 26, had a certain teacher deployed to two different schools.
“Such is the incongruity of the people manning the department of School Education in Nagaland!” it added.
Accordingly, the AKM endorsed the TKM’s demand that adequate teachers be immediately deployed.
It further urged the Government of Nagaland to look into the ‘rationalisation’ policy rationally and professionally without entertaining any political actors and vested interests as the future of the state and the nation at large is dependent on the teachers and their students.
