The Ri Bhoi Student Union (RBSU) has demanded the Meghalaya state government to take immediate steps to address the plight of SSA and deficit teachers in the state.

Speaking to the reporters today, RBSU president, Everjoy Nongpluh expressed deep concern while alleging that the state government is turning a deaf ear to the demands of the SSA teachers and deficit teachers who have been pleading for the release of their pending salaries.

“The state government has given mere excuses that the salaries of teaching faculties have not been received from the central government till date, but the state government has not shied away in colossal spending of public money to pay for the benefits and incentives to the unwanted Chairman, Co-Chairman of different departments and different boards,” Nongpluh said.

He also said that the other departments of the state government have been disbursing salaries to their respective employees through the Budget Estimation Allocation & Monitoring System (BEAMS). “This system is not been maintained or conducted within the Education Department that has failed to estimate in allotting monthly salaries to the teaching faculties either SSA or Deficit”, Nongpluh rued.

In this backdrop, the RBSU has demanded that Education Minister, Lahkmen Rymbui takes necessary actions to ensure the release of the pending salaries of the SSA and deficit teachers and also to increase manpower within the department.
