RCC Bridge linking Wokha and Zunheboto districts launched

Dimapur, May 14 (MExN): The RCC Bridge over River Ngai which connects Wokha district with Zunheboto district was inaugurated on May 13.

The Saptiqa Area GBs Association, President, Vitolu Chophy and General Secretary, Kashiho Shohe in a press release stated that the bridge was constructed under Special Plan Assistance (SPA) and inaugurated by H Chuba Chang, Advisor, PWD Road and Bridges, Nagaland in the presence of Er Picto Shohe, MLA, Atoizu Constituency, Kahuli Sema, Engineer-in-Chief, NPWD, officials from PWD, GBs and public leaders. 

Advisor H Chuba Chang in his address said, “If Nagas desire to pave for the development they must firstly do away the culture of landownership benefits” and asserted, “the landowners must not seek for personal benefits which definitely is a hurdle for developmental progress but should rather think for the benefit of the community at large.” 

The advisor also said, “To attain any smooth development the public, GBs and civil societies should also cooperate with the state government.” He wished that “the construction of this bridge could sustain the good connection and bring more peace and harmony between the two neighbouring tribes.”

Speaking on the occasion, Picto Shohe said that Ngai RCC Bridge is dedicated particularly to the people of Saptiqa and Atoizu area. “The installation of RCC Bridge over Nagi not only connects the Wokha with Zunheboto district but it also connects with neighbouring district like Tuensang and many Sumi neighbouring villages,” he informed. 

Narrating the background of the Ngai RCC Bridge, Picto, said, “During the site location for construction of Ngai Bridge there was number of technical problems but through the intervention of Er Meren Jamir, the then Engineer-in-Chief, NPWD the present site location was finalized and which is finally inaugurated today.”

Earlier there was no permanent bridge connection in this region and people of this region has suffered so many untold hardship, the commuters from the region had to travel to Satakha and subsequently via Chozuba road to reach state capital Kohima, Dimapur. The Engineer-in-Chief Kahuli Sema said that “now with the installation of RCC Bridge over River Ngai the journey would be henceforth more convenient and will prevail as the lifeline for the people in the region.” 

Executive Engineer, PWD (R&B) Atoizu Division, K Hetoi Sema, giving the technical presentation said that the work was sanctioned on January 7, 2013 with the fund amounting to 10.74 crore for this two-lane RCC bridge which was constructed by Vizheto Sumi.

A dedicatory prayer was pronounced by Ato G Associate Pastor Youth, Shena Old Baptist Church and  chaired by Kevide Nakhro Additional Chief Engineer PWD(R&B), Kohima with a benediction offered by Shihuto Awomi Pastor, Usutomi Baptist Church
