RD Dept initiates inquiry into alleged misuse of funds by VDB Longzang

 KOHIMA, MAY 16 (MExN): The Department of Rural Development has constituted a 3 member departmental enquiry committee headed by the Additional Director, Rural Development to enquire into the alleged misuse of funds under MGNREGA by the VDB, Longzang village under Phomching Block, Mon District.

Joint Secretary, Rural Development Department, Polan John in a press release through the DIPR informed that the enquiry was initiated after local news dailies carried a report of the alleged misuse. 

The Enquiry Committee has been directed to submit its report to the government within 15 days from the date of issue of notification.

Further, it stated that the department had taken up with the Deputy Commissioner Mon to suspend the Village Development Board (VDB) Longzang Village under Phomching Block, Mon District till such time as appropriate action is taken by the government.

On May 12, the Chairman and Secretary of Longzang village in Mon had alleged that “no developmental activities have taken place in the village” since the appointment of the present VCC and VDB. 

A press release from the two officials said that the public of Longzang village filed an RTI application and “found that the sum of Rs 4,79,24,510 have been misused without any work.”
