Altogether 70 trainees from the Indo-Myanmar border villages were awarded certificates along with tools and kits after completing training in various fields under Border Area Development Programme (BADP) and trained by Pinnacle Skills.
Valedictory programme in this regard was held at Conference Hall, Fairview Apartment, Khermahal, Dimapur on Saturday with Secretary DUDA, Senti Ao, IAS as the special guest.
Addressing the gathering, Senti said that the objective of Border Area Development Programme (BADP) for which DUDA was the nodal department, was to cater to the special needs of the most interior inhabitants of international boundary border villages in the country. He informed that in Nagaland, four districts of Indo-Myanmar border areas namely Mon, Tuensang, Kiphire and Phek covering 13 BADP blocks having 240 villages were availing the special fund since 1997. He said that Nagaland shares an international boundary length of 213.125 km with Myanmar having a total population of 2,90,858 (2011 Census). There are 28 numbers of international boundary pillars of Indo-Myanmar border in Nagaland, he added.
Senti also said that the Department of Underdeveloped Areas (DUDA) has been delivering various developmental activities as well as implementing hosts of Capacity Building/Skill Development Programmes since 2003 till date for the border villages. “Under developmental activities, it covers entire sectors mainly for critical gaps filling such as road infrastructure, social, education, health and agri & allied sectors,” he said. Further, the Secretary said that unconnected villages were connected, bridges/culverts/cross drains/side drains were constructed, missing links made etc.
Under Capacity Building/Skill Development Programmes 2017-18, he highlighted some recent programmes/trainings held with special emphasis on livelihood Altogether in 2017-18 alone about 1776 Indo-Myanmar villagers have been benefitted through these BADP Capacity Building/Skill Development Programmes, he added.
A total of 30 male as Electricians, 20 female in Beauty & Well-being and 20 female in Cutting & Tailoring were awarded certificates on Saturday after being trained for a period of two months.
He urged the trainees to efficiently utilize the tools and kits provided to them and teach their friends in their own areas.
