Minister for home, veterinary and animal husbandry Thenucho today challenged the students to have broad mind and ready to serve anywhere in the world.
Speaking at the 10th Fresher’ Social of Modern College, Kohima at the State Academy Hall, the minister cited the example of South Nagas, who are serving in various parts of the country and the Keralites and Punjabis in different parts of the world. “This is possible because they have broad mind,” the minister said and at the same time challenged the students to apply their mind and be prepared to go anywhere in the world. Also asking them to be committed in their jobs, he said “Today, the whole world is looking for the committed workers.”
In the present society, he said “we need honesty, sincerity, discipline and punctuality,” adding that such qualities reflect a bright scope in availing the job opportunity anywhere in the world.
“We need successful doctors, entrepreneurs, politicians etc,” the minister said and asked the students to prepare themselves and work hard in their search for excellence. “You have to lead the Nagas,” he said.
Stressing on the need to maintain peace and harmony in the society, Thenucho challenged the people come forward and contribute for peaceful atmosphere in the state. He also expressed his admiration of Modern College Kohima and wished them to grow from strength to strength.
Also speaking on the occasion as the Guest of Honour, Dr. Neikiesalie Kire encouraged the students to aim for the best and compete with the rest of the world.
Stating that job opportunity in the government has reached saturation point, he urged the students to venture into private sectors and other self employment avenues. Kire also handed out various awards to the students for academic excellence. Phillip and Pineng were declared as the coveted title of Mr and Miss Freshers’ 2007.
“We will maintain the traditional spirit of doing excellence and bring good name to the college through our maintenance of discipline, hard work and devotion,” said Mopling M. Phom while speaking on behalf of the freshers.
Also stating that it was fortunate for the students of the college that the college is providing facilities for the welfare of the students both in academic and extra-co-curricular activities, Mopling said “We all will work hard to achieve success and excel in the areas where one is talented.”
Also speaking on behalf of the senior, Lina Pegu said that Modern College, Kohima was started in 1997 with 164 students and today the strength of the students reaches over 1000. “This is a great achievement in the growth of the strength of student in this college. Now we have faculty of science, commerce and arts in the higher secondary level and in graduation level we have English, History, Education and Political Science with honour and Economics in general,” Lina added.
The function was chaired by Vungkhanlam while R. Yansamongo Ezung delivered welcome address. Cultural programme also marked the occasion.
