The recruitment process for constable posts in the Nagaland Police, announced in September 2025, commenced across the State on January 7, 2026.

Around 32,000 candidates have applied for 1,176 Constable (General Duty) posts in response to an advertisement issued by the Nagaland Police Headquarters on September 30. Following scrutiny of documents, the recruitment process formally began with the Physical/ Medical Standard Test (P/MST), comprising four events—running, pull-ups, high jump and long jump.

The recruitment rallies are being conducted simultaneously across all districts from January 7 to 16 and inputs from various sources indicated that the process kicked off in almost all districts on Wednesday.

In Mon district, the rally began at the Mon Local Ground and will continue till January 16. On the first day, 511 candidates appeared for the PST, while a total of 6,121 candidates have applied for the 166 posts allocated to the district.

For Chümoukedima, the rally will culminate on January 13.

On the eve of the rally, January 6, Commissioner of Police, Dimapur, Aotula T Imchen informed that 3,377 applications were received for 144 vacancies allocated to the three districts. Ahead of the rallies, the State Government and the Police Department reiterated their commitment to a transparent, fair and merit-based recruitment process. Necessary security and administrative arrangements have been put in place to ensure smooth conduct.

Early in the year, on January 21, the Supreme Court dismissed a Special Leave Petition (SLP), declining to interfere with a judgment of the Gauhati High Court, Kohima Bench (GHCKB), which had quashed the appointment of 935 police constables and 40 SI/UBSIs, effectively bringing closure to one of Nagaland’s most contentious recruitment controversies.

In the aftermath, the Nagaland Police issued an advertisement dated September 30 for the recruitment of 1,176 Constable (GD) posts, with initial physical tests scheduled for January 2026.

The recruitment process was announced following the Gauhati High Court, Kohima Bench, quashing the appointments of nearly 1,000 Nagaland Police constables recruited between 2018 and 2020 without public advertisement, holding that the process violated constitutional provisions in 2024. The ruling was subsequently upheld by the Supreme Court in January 2025.
